Blueprint finds Rory Gallagher sharpening his blues rock attack without losing the raw energy that made him one of the era’s most respected guitarists. Released in 1973, the album mixes hard-driving originals with a keen sense of dynamics, from the urgent charge of Walk On Hot Coals to the swaggering Race The Breeze and the traditional feel of The Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son. Gallagher’s singing and guitar work are front and centre throughout, giving the record a tougher, leaner edge than much mainstream rock of the period. It remains a strong statement of his early-’70s peak and enduring live-wire style.
