Never For Ever is the album where Kate Bush broadened her vision without losing the eccentric precision that made her unique. Released in 1980, it became her third studio album and her first to reach number one in the UK, helped by the sharp pop drama of Babooshka and the anti-war single Army Dreamers. Co-produced with Jon Kelly, the record moves between art rock, piano-led balladry and vivid character sketches, from Delius to The Infant Kiss, showing Bush pushing pop songcraft into stranger, more theatrical territory. It remains one of the key statements in her early career and a landmark of adventurous British pop.
